Hey there, I’m Norah Haughian and I’m a junior at the University of Oregon studying public relations and minoring in business and nonprofit administration. I love working in the nonprofit sector, event planning, and social media (whether that’s scrolling through celebrity Instagram photos or using Twitter to raise money for cancer research).
I am currently a supervisor at the Annual Giving Program at the university, where I manage 35 callers in daily academic fundraising. Over the three years spent with the organization, I have raised over $25,000 for everything from new construction projects, scholarships and even the Trees and Benches Fund!
In regards to my work with nonprofits, I have been a passionate volunteer since my middle school years. But over the years, this love has morphed into a desire to do more. I have worked with Best Buddies International for over eight years now and currently run the social media accounts for the University of Oregon chapter. This position has allowed me to see first-hand the power that social media has for connecting with new audiences and boosting organizations that deserve attention. I have also worked with the American Cancer Society for the past two years as an event coordinator and fundraiser for the annual Relay for Life event. Through a rigorous six-month planning process, I was able to collaborate with multiple teams to plan a successful event raising over $23,000. This experience was so special to me because my team was made up entirely of college students who just wanted to do some good and we were able to plan an incredibly meaningful and successful day.
After finishing school, I plan on moving back to the Bay Area and working for a nonprofit specializing in working with women. I would love to run the social media for this organization and push the limits on what we could accomplish if we utilized the influence that these platforms have.
